Insights into "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving

It's not just for kids, you know!  Things to consider include the plot - the sequence of events. Is it a straightforward retelling of events?  Is so, why?  The setting - why the detail?  The characters - who are they, physically and intellectually? 

It's a great story made even more so by a literary understanding of the text.
